The Union of Pentecostal Churches of the Republic of Tatarstan has been involved in the One Year for Jesus Project for more than one year. The team evangelizes villages, towns and cities of Tatarstan. Many of those who cannot go personally support the project with prayers and finances.
In February, One Year for Jesus team from Central Federal District visited Tatarstan. The team shared about their ministry, many people in the church were inspired to participate in this project.
This event helped to add new members to the team. On May 5, the team of 17 people went to Menzelinsky area. They divided into several smaller groups and went to the villages of Verkhniy Takermen, Podgorny Takermen, Staroye Abdulovo and Kazil. Since most of the people of the Republic are Tatars (they consider themselves Muslim, though they are quite nominal) evangelists experience some difficulties to preach the Gospel.
Team members shared that to bring the Gospel to Tatars could be compared with breaking walls of concrete. People first of all say: "We are Tatars", meaning that they are Muslim. But is there anything impossible for God? His son died on the cross for the Tatar people as well as for others.
Team members said that they felt God’s help. Brothers and sisters used every opportunity to tell people about God's love. In many Tatar villages older people do not understand Russian, and sometimes evangelists had to communicate by gestures. Many have already begun to study Tatar language. The key to many hearts was a Christian song in the Tatar language, "Come back, my child". The words of the song were recited as a poem and touched people’s hearts. Many of them cried and opened their hearts to the Lord.
As evangelists visited homes they witnessed a lot of grief: some families lost their children. The Lord brought team members to one house, where they met a man, who lost three young children. Having gone through this grief, he was searching God and His comfort. And the loving Lord sent His servants to help him to invite Jesus into his heart.
On Sunday, the team was back to Naberezhnye Chelny to worship the Lord together with their brothers and sisters. They shared about their trips and visits. It was evident that in each visited home they left behind a piece of God's love. They spoke about the difficulties they face, and the joys that they felt when people accepted the message of God's love.
The One Year for Jesus Project in Tatarstan goes on. This is a special blessing from the Lord!
