Official releases

On behalf of the Russian Church of Christians of Evangelical Faith-Pentecostals Head Bishop Edward Grabovenko expressed sincere sympathy to the family, friends, AG leadership, brothers and sisters in the USA and around the world, to all who knew and loved Dr. Wood.

“Today we were saddened to learn that former General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God USA and Chairman of the World Fellowship of the Assemblies of God George O. Wood has ended his earthly journey. But we rejoice that he is now “on the other side of the Jordan, where the Lord heals”, as Dr. Wood said in his recent interview (https://news.ag.org/).

One of God's people who served the Lord faithfully and devotedly in fulfilling the Great Commission has gone to eternity. A man of amazing destiny and incredible understanding of the times in which he lived, with a heart capable of accommodating many. He remained a faithful God’s servant until his last day, inspiring many to preach the Gospel.

For a number of years the Russian Church of Evangelical Christians-Pentecostals has been a part of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, which George O. Wood chaired. We met at council meetings, conferences, and meetings of the Empowered21 movement. Dr. Wood was a speaker at the National Conference in Perm, Russia, in September 2011.

We were deeply moved by the life story of George O. Wood and his family, who labored as missionaries in China. As a child, George experienced the hardships and challenges that missionaries face. In all that he became a man who had the deepest revelation about the Lord. He shared that revelation with us, simply and clearly.

We respected his deep faith and love for God and His word, and a sincere desire to expand God's Kingdom. We saw in him reverence, respect, love for Russia and Russian people. We are grateful for his support in our efforts to bring God’s Word to our nation. We thank God for the honor and privilege of knowing Dr. George O. Wood and serving the Lord with him.

“Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord…” (Rev. 14:13)
