Eugenia: “God gives me hope for the future”

Stories
KANSK (KRASNOYARSK REGION, RUSSIA) - A young woman of 32 years old by the name of Eugenia lives in a village near Krasnoyarsk. Her story is similar to other women’s stories: she has two small children and an alcoholic husband who beats her. Some time ago Eugenia herself was addicted to alcohol and cigarettes. In alcohol drunkenness her husband beat her severely, as a result she couldn’t move her arm and leg. It would take a surgery to get her arm and leg to move normally. The circumstances of life were terrible; it looked as if there was no way out.

God came into her life unexpectedly when our team from the Risen Christ the Savior Church in Kansk visited her village and told her about the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ and all-embracing love of Heavenly Father. Eugenia without any hesitation prayed to God, asking Jesus to come into her heart.

Everything has changed in the life of Eugenia. Eugenia attends a home Bible study group. A lady from the church assists her to issue documents to obtain governmental benefit due to her disability. Selfless help of sisters from the church especially touched the heart of a young woman. Eugenia totally abstains from alcohol; she tries to change her habitual way of life.

One evening when she came home, there was an unopened bottle of beer on the table. Her husband was not at home, and Eugenia had a strong desire to open it and drink. She immediately cried out to God for help to get through this temptation. The Lord was by her side and gave her strength: the bottle stayed untouched.

In spite of existing problems with her husband, who is still suffering from alcohol dependence, and who sometimes does not let her home, Eugenia doesn’t get dismayed. Through continuous fellowship with brothers and sisters, she grows in the Lord, who gives her strength and hope for the future.
