To be loyal – to Communist ideas or to Christ?

Stories
DZERZHINSKY (MOSCOW, RUSSIA) - Ivan has been a Communist for a long time and has decided to stay loyal to his belief. He wouldn’t listen to missionaries message about Christ and receive a gift of the New Testament. But their question: ‘How did your belief in communist ideas help you in life?’ – made him think. When Ivan was young he served in the army and participated in military actions. Right before his eyes his friends were killed… it was a miracle that he came out of that nightmare alive. He had to get through forest, starved… Since then he always numbed his deep pain by drinking alcohol, but it helped only for short time.

Actually, how did his communist ideas help Ivan? He lives alone, suffering from guilt. Ivan is so afraid that his grandsons will get his bad habit of drinking to find comfort in alcohol. He has never thought what kind of legacy he will leave.

When missionaries began to tell Ivan about God’s love and mercy, he realized for the first time that he had a chance to change his life. Ivan’s heart broke and he wept. One of the team members told Ivan about her drug addiction that she was freed from. Her testimony impressed him and helped to believe that there was nothing impossible for God.

This encounter changed Ivan’s life. God’s Spirit touched his heart and he asked Him for forgiveness. Now he is getting ready to go to a rehabilitation center, where he will get help.
