KANSK (KRASNOYARSK REGION, SIBERIA) - Toogach village is located in Sayan district of Krasnoyarsk region, in Central Siberia. The village is a home to about 300 people. There are no jobs, men are mainly engaged in hunting and fishing, but many of them just drink alcohol. There is no mobile network. Many abandoned houses. No Christian church in this village. About the only attraction is a nursing home for ex-convicts. There are 40 people with disabilities in this home. After the imprisonment they were placed here because they had nobody to take care of them. Ten employees are helping these people.
Before we came into the nursing home, we prayed and asked the Lord that He would open the door and we would be allowed to give out New Testaments. But the Lord our God Almighty does more than we ask! We were not only allowed to give out books, but to talk to people and pray for them. It was wonderful. We went into every room, gave New Testaments, magazines, prayed for healing of the elderly people. And most importantly, we prayed with them the sinner’s prayer. New Testaments were also presented to the employees, and we prayed for them. One of the workers ran along the hallway and screamed that she wanted us to pray for her. There was a wonderful presence of the Lord in this house!
People who lived in despair because no one cared for them, suddenly gained hope. Having heard the gospel, several people invited Jesus into their hearts. When we were leaving, I was approached by a man. He asked me to speak with him. Introduced himself as Sergei. Looking at him, I realized that his life was not easy – the main part of it he spent in prison, this fact he did not hide. Entering the room, he burst into tears like a child and told that his mother was a Pentecostal Christian and that she was praying for him. And he turned out to be such a lousy person… Still weeping, Sergei cried, “What shall I do?” We prayed the prayer of repentance with him. It was so awesome! Praise be to Jesus!
With our visit the light of the Gospel came into this house. People understand now that they are not alone on this earth, that the Lord cares for them, even if authorities have refused to take care of them. Many are now waiting for us there. The director gave his phone number and invited us to come again, to hold a concert, to have some fellowship with old people.
