On Monday, January 28, volunteers from Source of Life Church of Syktyvkar (Komi Republic) held an outreach "Feed the hungry", the purpose of which was to minister to homeless people.
The outreach took place in the open air near a Social shelter for homeless people. Volunteers from the church and workers of the Social shelter helped 40 homeless people with clothing and hot meals.
During the outreach people heard the message about God's love and forgiveness. Those who wanted to change their way of life were offered to go through rehabilitation program at the New Life center affiliated with the Source of Life Church. Several people responded to the invitation.
We, as a church, are the hope for the world. And people should see the works of the church, directed to help those in need, because “faith without works is dead” (James, chapter 2 verse 26). Jesus Christ showed us an example of how we can serve and love not only with words but deeds.
“Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick, and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty, and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew, chapter 25 verses 34-40).
